Pet Food Recall and my cat Mao

I had my cat Mao put to sleep on 02/28/07 because of kidney failure. I had been feeding him Iams Select Bites in Gravy daily. I learned of the Menu Foods recall three weeks later. Iams was one of the recalled foods.
I shot this video of Mao the last afternoon I spent with him. He was feeling pretty awful, but gathered some energy for the camera. I have lots of pictures of him, but realized I didn’t have any video. I was a mess that day and Mao wasn’t himself, but I’m glad to have this little bit of video. Wish I had video of the happier times, but I’d like people to know how many animals have been affected by the tainted food. A far cry from the reported sixteen by Menu Foods.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hate those stupid Menu Foods and they think they can get away with it. After the recall hardly noone has been buying their products. Soon those foods will stop selling because of everyone boycotting their products!

I’m so sorry for you and beautiful Mao. That crap food has long been considered junk with a big fat price tag. People fed it because they believed it was a premium food and safe and healthy for their cats. The only thing premium about Iams is the price tag. So very tragic.

I’m so sorry about your cat - I didn’t know anything about this pet food recall til today (I’m in the UK) and I read about all the pets that died from tainted food, it’s awful.
I have a Patterdale Terrier puppy and would be so sad if anything happened to her, my 3 year old son adores her and she’s really part of our family.

Thank you for sharing the little time Mao and you had together. I lost two cats from kidney failure from feeding my cats food from Menu Foods. I have continually contacted them for the past 2 1/2 years and have never heard from them.

Sorry to hear about your loss. My cat also had kidney failure because of cat biscult I feed him and passed away. Now, I only buy the best cat biscults that show the symbol on the packet, - it’s ok for kidney function.

Mao was so beautiful and how truly tragic is this situation that we are expected to trust our government and corporations (which by far are almost all corrupt). I believe many more animals died due to this toxin in their food than will ever be reported or admitted. I am so sorry for your loss, I have four babies of my own and I just cherish them. I have had losses before, but not due to scandals and corruption such as this!

I am very sorry for your loss. It’s time we all stand together and put a stop to this. Our FDA is NOT protecting us. Now it is becoming known that the same melamine that killed your cat is in our HUMAN food. I personally have become ill with kidney problems and I live in the U.S.
The U.S. imported millions of pounds of milk powder related products such as casein from China this year alone. It is being used in our products manufactured right here in the the United States (and Europe).

menu foods killed my dog. we went through the same thing. it was on my young kids to watch him suffering the same way your cat did. just laying for hours, not eating, or drinking. i miss our dog we my daughter still cries about it. i’m sorry i hope you are feeling better now.

Not all animals must be functionally useful. Pets are meant to boost up the emotional side of a person. Cats may be temperimental and unpredictable, but their playfulness and the silly things that they do makes people laugh. Some cats are really funny to watch and play with. At least they help to give you laughter, which is the best medicine. That I think can sometimes be better than a dog. I love both dogs and cats. They have their own usefulness.
