LIGERS TIGERS LIONS: Big Cat Problem!

Ligers; Tigers and Lions are bred by charlatans who claim it was “accidental.” Don’t believe it. They breed them because ignorant people will pay to see them. There are NO big cats being bred for release back to the wild.
Big Cat Rescue is a nonprofit 501(c)3 charity dedicated to the care of exotic cats. We provide a permanent home for unwanted wildcats and we educate the public in order to eliminate the causes of abandonment and abuse. The images of exploitation and horrid conditions in the video above were filmed in places where we had been asked to rescue big cats; but we cannot save them all.

True, if we preserve the habitat and protect the animals they will make a recovery. We’ve been a big cat sanctuary for 16 years now, in the early days we did breed some cats under the impression from others that this was the best thing to do to preserve the species. Since then we have learnt that this was just adding to the problem of cats living in cages and do no breeding.

The problem is loss of habitat. When their living space is preserved there will be no need for human breeding intervention. Besides, most “sanctuaries” that claim they are helping by breeding are the ones doing it merely for profit and are shut down for inhumane treatment. That is how BCR has acquired many of its cats.

Thanks, our ultimate goal is to put ourselves out of business by getting the laws changed regarding ownership of these cats. The black leopard was filmed at a parking lot in florida where the owners were using tiger and lion cubs as photo props, unfortunately we simply cannot rescue every cat we see, we already have over 130 cats to provide for. The way we can make the biggest difference is to change the laws…

Big cats will never make a good “pet” they’re meant to roam hundreds of square miles and kill and eat things the size of people! To keep them in a small cage for 20+ years is definitely wrong! Domestic cats are just that they have been domesticated for thousands of years, it would be great if people bought/rescued these instead of big cats.

whats wrong with owning a big cat as a pet ? i know theres riddculous amounts of abuse out there but a whats rong with owning anything as a pet as long as its not bread to to kill and mame like some types of dogs out there , people need to learn respect! and the things in a cage behind him , and i never one saw the guy step in the cage with the bigger animals , things need to be understood not just saved .

I think male tigers may have thicker hair on the sides of their faces, to make them look larger and thus, more of a threat. Not too sure though.

I am very angry at those owners or organizations who had abandoned these magnificant lovely cats. For whatever reasons they shouldn’t have abandoned them as they brought up these cats! How on earth could they be so heartless and irresponsible to toss them away just like that? What a bunch of s! I will never forgive them.

The male tiger has a large ruff of hair around his head, while the females have a proportionally smaller ruff and also a proportionally smaller head. The male tiger is thicker and bulkier, while the female is more elongated and slender.
