Yea I'll have to agree w/ the 1st answer....You can't really train a cat to walk on a leash...they aren't like dogs that you tame as you may already know they have their own attitude lol Honestly it's really up to them. Especially if it's an older cat...it's hard to teach them new tricks. The best thing I can suggest to do for now is keep him indoors until you get a feel of his personality...If he's a calm cat you can little by little take him out and just sit there and watch him explore...just make sure you keep a close eye on him. That's what I do w/ my cat I take her out for about half hour a day (if possible not necessarily everyday) and just watch her play in the grass...it's cute!
However if your cat is ansy to go out and hyperactive try to keep toys around the house a scratching post and maybe some of that fake grass so he can eat off of and if you like maybe catnip cats love it!....No worries though! Cats are very self sufficient all you've gotta do is show him where his litter box is and his food the rest should be simple. If any concerns ask your local vet or spca I'm sure they'll be happy to answer any questions. Regarding food....I use to think it didn't matter what type of food you fed your pet however it does! My cats use to throw up constantly, had poor digestive problems and they hardly ate what I gave them....so I spoke to my vet who introduced me to this type of cat food called Wellness. It's great! my cats love it and they digest it w/out problems. It's a little pricy however, my cats health means everything to me they're my babies. Anyway, I've never herd of Nutro, but I'm sure it's fine and it doesn't hurt to try it out right?!

*Best of luck*

BTW here's the link for Wellness Cat food just incase:

I actually did walk my 2 cats around in a park a few times on leashes. They were probably at least 5 or 6 yrs old, 2 females. Of course, you do not walk them. They do what they want and you follow. But they do get spooked by things, or try to chase a squirrell and then you are jolting them back. But overall it works, they loved it, they were curious to explore. I felt like I gave them special outings. People were surprised and came up to ask questions. It is also a good idea to buy one of those cat carriages - so if an emergency situation comes up they have somewhere to hide, for example a dog is near.
You don't need any special training. If he is in a harness, and you bring him outdoors he won't even care he's on a harness, he will be too busy exploring.
As far as the food - read the long response from Kat. Nutro is actually the only good food in a typical pet food store. They are many better foods in natural food stores. Stick with wet food - cats are desert animals and do not drink water unless they are not healthy. Actually a sign of disease in a cat is a cat drinking water. The kidneys are highly efficient and extract water from the food - but it has to be wet food. Dry food leads to kidney failure, as do medications and vacinations.
Best wishes with your cat walks.
References :
dunno about the lead, but I use Hills. it's reccomended by vets so it's the one for me. I think you can only buy in pet shops and vets
References :
Don't try collar and leash -- get a proper cat harness. Put it on him for a minute or two to begin with, praise him, maybe feed him a treat. Next day, try it for longer. After the first few wearings, he will begin to accept that he is not in bondage, and will accept the harness.

However, when you take him out, remember that he'll go where he wants -- not where you want.
References :
You don't usually "walk" a cat with a leash. They have a mind of their own....
References :
Since he's already an adult I'm going to guess with 99.9% accuracy he's not going to go for the leash.

Wellness and Felidae are two of the best cat foods out there. Read the labels if corn, wheat, or any other grain are in the top 5 ingredients, it's crap. truthfully, Cats should be on grain-free food anyway. Supermarket brands (Purina, Friskies, Iams, Eukanuba, etc) are all crap.

Feed quality food. You'll save money in vet bills and stinky litter.
References :
Why would you want your cat to walk on a leash? I dont get why ppl do that. If I actually saw a freak walking down the street with their cat on a goddamn leash, I would laugh! Its going to be too difficult to train an adult cat to do that anyway. Domestic cats should live inside. If you want an animal you can take for walks, get a dog!

As far as food...the main ingredient should be a meat...and 3 out of the first 5 ingredients should be meat. Cats are carnivores and dont need alot of corn and carbs that are in most foods. Your best bet is going to a pet store rather than Walmart or the grocery store.

Walking a cat on a leash...LMAO!
References :
cat and dog owner
