They have an easy life our cats. They spend their days in lazy contemplation in the garden or the sunny conservatory and are the best fed cats in the universe. Harry is top cat - she is 15 years old and spends most of her time sleeping on various beds in the house but she likes to take a turn in the garden once a day when the weather is good. Purdey is a tough old character; he is getting on a bit and has slowed down this year due to a touch of arthritis, but that doesn’t stop him from getting out and about. He was named after Joanna Lumley’s character from the New Avengers, as it was being repeated in early 1996 when he first joined our household (although he had been a nameless visitor for years as he lived a few doors down from us). Adric also moved in around about the same time after spending many months visiting us when he first moved into the area in 1995. He is the is the most adventurous of our cats - he prefers the outdoor life, even on rainy days and likes to sleep in the undergrowth in the back garden, or in the long grass by our front door. He was named after one of Dr Who’s companions (the one who was killed by cybermen!) Purdey and Adric have never got along, and were deadly enemies until Perkins moved in next door in 1999, then Perkins became Adric’s #1 enemy and Adric lost interest in fighting with Purdey (tho’ they occasionally still have fisticuffs). Perkins’ became a regular visitor to our garden in the summer of ‘99, after our beloved cat Elvis passed away. We were always pleased to see him, depsite the ongoing vendetta bewteen him and Adric. Then our neighbours decided to move to the Isle of Wight and we prepared to say a sad farewell to our new friend, but lucky for us our neighbours left Perkins behind with us, as he is not a good traveller and did not get on well with their 2 year old daughter. So Perkins became a permanent member of the family - and he and Adric managed to find a way to live together in harmony - well sort of! And my brother’s dog Jarvis makes a special guest appearance - bless him!
